Figure 5. DNA fragmentation of fresh (extended in EZ-Mixin), processed (in freezing extender after loading into straws), and postthaw equine spermatozoa following a standard cryopreservation protocol. Sperm comets were scored from grade 0 (no damage) to grade 4 (extensive damage), and the individual grade scores for 100 spermatozoa from each treatment were converted into a composite score by multiplying the number of sperm nuclei by the corresponding numerical score. The percentage contribution of each grade to the composite score is represented within each bar. Means (±SEM) with different superscripts (a, b) differ (P < .01).
